Toddler Creativity

Why is it that kids never want to play with toys as they were intended? This is Eleanor one Saturday morning, wearing her "armor" that she donned (with some help from daddy). Of course, these were originally meant as building blocks. I don't think she's ever built anything with them; she just turns them into bracelets and wears them for her tea parties.

Why do we even bother getting them specific toys? Maybe, for her next birthday, we should just get an assortment of boxes, blank paper of various colors and sizes .... and what? Play dough? Maybe some cups. I think that should do it. And she'll be one happy little girl!

That is too funny and adorable! She is so creative, and that's definitely a trait she gets from her mommy! :)

We cut holes in grocery boxes one day, and the kids all went marching around the house pretending to be robots.

Hamma beads and play doh get played with to death in our house.

That is too cute! Will does the same thing. Everything in the house becomes a train, so I'm not really sure why we continue to buy him real trains anymore....

Natalie's happy as a clam to play with ziploc storage containers and empty cardboard diaper boxes that she "turns" into carts that she pushes. Marc and I were just saying, "why do we buy her real toys?"

At least the creative juices are flowing!
Love the picture of Eleanor's armor:)

Thanks, Cat! I'll happily accept the (probably undeserved) credit:)

Jonathan: Hamma beads? I'll have to check those out ....

Andrea and Laurie: That's exactly what we're saying--why do we keep buying all these different toys when a few boxes could serve these many purposes? But of course, we know that we'll keep buying the toys. Maybe the psychology behind it is another blog post...

and Laurie, sometimes I think the blog could be pictures of Eleanor, all the time. She's adorable AND loves to ham it up for the camera. A perfect combination:)

@ M: I'm all for the all-E-all-the-time blog, unless it creeps you out to have too many photos of your kid online. She's not going to be this adorable and agreeable forever! (Not that I'm wishing it on you --or her-- just going with the statistical likelihoods on behavior patterns of pre-teens/adolescents here.) Plus, these photos and in-the-moment comments can be the electronic first draft of an eventual hard copy scrapbook/photo album of her toddler years. (Assuming you're into that; some stampers and not scrapbookers and vice versa.)

Doh! *are* -- Some stampers *are* not scrapbookers, and vice versa. But you probably filled that part in yourself.

Amy: I got what you meant re: stampers/scrapbookers. I hadn't thought about using the blog for a scrapbook, but that's a good idea. I do scrapbook, but not particularly well or often.

Thanks for the vote for the E
All the Time blog--you make a good point about the toddler adorableness factor. When I'm having trouble thinking of a post, I'll be more ready to find a cute E pic!
